What is a phone for the elderly ?

Mobile or landline, a phone for the elderly gives easy-to-use features and is designed to ease its use. For example, the mobile phone for the elderly can be touch-sensitive or with flip. For an older person, a flip phone is more secure in case of a fall and prevents unintentional calls from being made.Another example is that a senior landline phone can have pictures to make it easier to make calls. But there are also senior mobile phones with pictures.

How to choose a senior landline phone

Mobile phones and landline phones for the elderly are not the same. They address different issues. However, there are some widespread characteristics, such as big keys.A telephone with large buttons for senior citizens is easier to use in the case of impaired vision or tremors, for example.

Your choice of senior landline phone can be a cordless phone, a corded phone or a corded phone and cordless handset combination. Senior landline phones have large buttons. They can incorporate an answering machine. The vast majority have amplified ringtones (up to 80 dB) and some also emit a light signal.

A cordless or corded landline telephone for older people should have an SOS button. The emergency call features can vary, for example by offering one or more emergency numbers to contact at the same time. These are the most important features when choosing a senior corded phone. The others are similar to ordinary landline phones, such as battery life and range.

For a senior cordless phone, you or your loved one must remember to press the button after picking up the phone and hang up the handset, except for a senior phone with automatic hang-up (also allowing automatic pick-up).

Regarding the senior corded phone, it is better to opt for the possibility of adding a wireless handset to the device later, or even several.

An elderly or senior person needs accessories to improve their daily life. Check out our everyday products like our reading magnifiers or reading lamps for easy reading in bed.
